Louise Cantillon completes our judging panel!!

Louise Cantillon, Radio Presenter @ Spin South West

Louise Cantillon rounds off what is a star studded judging panel for the art competition.

Louise is well known from her background in Media and her grá for the cupla focal. Louise presented SPIN South West’s weekend bilingual show, Pop Raidio before moving to Spin Hits with Louise.

During her radio career to date, she has been nominated for three Radio Awards, the future is certainly bright for this Media star!

Louise had this to say when she joined the competition “I am excited to see all of the entries and read all of your good news stories. We’ve all noticed hero’s in our lives over the last few weeks and it’s so important to champion them! Best of luck to everyone.”

Announcing Declan Hannon as our next judge!!

Declan Hannon, All-Ireland winning Limerick Hurling Captain

I am delighted to announce Declan Hannon as our next judge.

Declan was appointed captain of the Limerick senior hurling team for the 2018 season and led Limerick to their first All-Ireland title in 45 years. Declan was named on The Sunday Game Team of the Year and ended the season by winning an All-Star Award.

He is held in very high regard amongst young and old both in Limerick and across Ireland. It is our honour to welcome you to the panel.

When asked what he was looking forward to the most about the competition Declan said “I’m
excited to see some great drawings and read about your Heroes. Best of luck to all involved “

Roisin Upton joins our judging panel!!

Roisin Upton, Irish Field Hockey International

I am delighted to share that Limerick’s own Roisin Upton will be joining Mike Fitzpatrick on the judging panel!

Roisin is best known for playing a starring role in Ireland’s journey to the Women’s Hockey World Cup final in 2018. The Irish women’s hockey team history made history again in 2019, being the first female team to have qualified for the Olympics in Tokyo. We look forward to raising the roof when the Irish womens hockey team hit Tokyo in the Summer of 2021.

Roisin was also crowned Limerick Person of the Year 2019 and is certainly a role model for all children to look up to.

Welcome aboard Roisin!

Welcome to Draw Your Hero :)

Hi there,

My name is Eamonn and over the past number of weeks I – like you – have sat at home with my family watching with shock the current pandemic unfolding. At this difficult and anxious time for Ireland our Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s words “Not all superheroes wear capes, some wear scrubs and gowns” resonated with me and brought to mind the many different professions and people who are working tirelessly to bring us through this time. I, like many others, have been humbled by the efforts of our fellow country men, women and children in the past few weeks and in my own small way wish to recognise their efforts.

I am organising an art competition entitled ‘Draw your Hero’ centred around the theme “Not all superheroes wear capes”. This competition is open to children aged between 6 and 14 years of age on the island of Ireland and will be followed by an exhibition of a selection of their work and a special awards night with amazing prizes to acknowledge the artists and their heroes.

Please help me spread the word to ensure all children get the opportunity to honour the superheroes in their lives and we get to give them the recognition they deserve.

Thanks,

Eamonn Lunn
